The "width" of your pergola indicates the length of the beams (the supports that sit directly atop the posts or columns) and the purlins (the angled shade pieces). The "depth" of your pergola refers to the length of the rafters (which lie crossways on top of the beams). Please ask if you are unsure which should be your depth or width!

Fan mount kits are used to hang outdoor fans as well as pendant lights, tv mounts, headers, etc. Each fan mount kit includes; a piece of structural aluminum sleeved in vinyl, two rafter hangers to mount between rafters, 3/8" x 1" hex screws, and two vinyl trim rings.

Hurricane Clips

Hurricane Clips are an additional aluminum L-bracket that attaches each rafter to the beam. This additional attachment point gives an additional wind warranty to the original purchaser of the pergola kit. They are recommended for hurricane prone coastal areas.

These optional L-Shape brackets are another means of attaching the beams to the post. It eliminates the step of pre-drilling through the face of the beam. The brackets attach to the beam first, then into the aluminum post mount.

Throughout the year we do a ton of custom quotes for homeowners and contractors! These can vary in both size and shape. Using our quote function and live pricing on our quoting page can give you a great ballpark idea of what your pricing may be. For example, if you have a 10×40 pergola you’d like to quote you can look at a 10×20 price and know your quote will be around twice as much, etc.

Knowing which way your depth and width are running will be important pieces of information as well. Below you may see what pieces of our roof are considered the width and depth.

What is on the inside of that vinyl pergola you always drive by? The real answer is it’s tough to know unless you’re the one that built it. Vinyl pergolas look the same on the outside whether they have wood, aluminum, steel or air on the inside. Some vinyl pergola kits that seem incredibly affordable are because there are no interior reinforcements included with your purchase! This means you’ll have to take a trip to a local box store or lumberyard to find something to fit inside your posts or sleeves.  What makes a Heartland Pergola so great is the lifetime warranty aluminum reinforcement that runs the entirety of the posts and all structural profiles throughout the pergola.

The aluminum post stiffeners (pictured above) come a full 10 1/2′ long in the vinyl pergola pallet. These lifetime warranty stiffeners have a welded base plate with holes in all four corners. They may be bolted down to concrete pads (minimum 4″ thick), decks or landscape pillar caps (high PSI caps like Indiana Limestone or equivalent). These posts may also be embedded into concrete footings if required by engineering or permitting restrictions in your area.

Each beam and rafter (pictured above) has a fully extruded 2×6 or 2×8 aluminum profile on the inside. These lifetime warranty aluminum pieces ensure the safety of your family below and will not warp or sag over time. Our 2×6 aluminum profiles may clear span up to 16′ and our 2×8 aluminum profiles clear span up to 22′. These aluminum profiles ship inside the vinyl pergola profiles on each pallet and are easily slide in and out during the vinyl pergola installation process.

Do I have to buy wood posts for the inside? No – absolutely not! Our pergolas are all aluminum interiors. This means the aluminum posts run the full length (10’+) of your posts! With a Heartland Pergola there will be no cutting corners and risking the long-term safety of anyone sitting under your pergola.
